1.

Give two examples of each: Law of Vector Addition, Dot Product and Cross Product from daily life.

Answer»
  • When a lawn mower is pushed, the mower moves along the grassy ground but the force is applied at an angle to the direction in which the mower moves.
  • Opening or close a tap, or for that matter where a turning moment is produced, are examples of the cross product of two vectors.
  • Opening/closing a tap, we apply equal and opposite forces at the two diametrically opposite ends of the tap. These force produce a turning couple which turns the tap.
  • The turning moment of the couple is equal to r × f, where r= diametet of the tap head, at two ends of which force f is applied.
  • Same is true of when we put or take out a screw.
  • When a door is opened/closed the angular momentum it has is equal to r × p, where p is the linear momentum of the free end of the door being opened/closed, and r is the perpendicular distance from the hinges on which the door rotates and the free end of the door.
