The E˚ cell can be calculated as :

4[CO3+ + e→ CO2+]  E˚= 1.82 V

2H2O → O2 + 4H+ + 4e-  E˚= -1.23 V

Cell reaction :

4CO3+ + 2H2O → CO2+ O2 + 4H+

E˚ cell = 1.82 V-(-1.23 V) = 3.05 V

Since E˚cell is positive, the cell reaction is spontaneous. CO3+ iron will take part in the reaction and hence
