Answer» Answer: Why hill STATIONS are cold? The TEMPERATURE is closely related to pressure. The FIRST thing you would need to KNOW is that the atmospheric pressure is very low in higher altitudes. This is due to somewhat the absence or the lower amount of air there. The air is actually a combination of various gases such as Oxygen and Nitrogen and water vapor. It has weight, and the atmospheric pressure at a place is simply the force that the air particles exert on that particular place. The gravitational pull of Earth FORCES the air constituents to be as close to the planet surface as possible. It is this lower pressure at higher altitudes that causes the temperature to be colder on top of a mountain than at sea level. |
