The Ganga plays a variety of roles from being a beggar to a clown finally being shadowless. Here beggar and clown are used in a very random sense suggesting that the Ganga can be anything and is everything. An analogy can be drawn here between a beggar and a clown, and human life. A child begs everything from its parents till it becomes a grown-up person. When he starts earning his livelihood on his own, he becomes a clown entertaining his family, friends and relatives. His life comes to an end and he becomes shadowless.

भिक्षुक होने से लेकर जोकर होने तक और अन्त में अस्तित्वहीन हो जाने तक गंगा कई प्रकार की भूमिकाएँ खेलती है। यहाँ भिक्षुक एवं जोकर शब्द अत्यधिक अव्यवस्थित अर्थ में प्रयोग किए हैं। जिसका आशय यह दिखाई देता है कि गंगा कुछ भी हो सकती है और प्रत्येक चीज हो सकती है। यहाँ भिक्षुक एवं मसखरे की तुलना मानव-जीवन से की जा सकती है। एक बच्चा प्रत्येक चीज अपने . माता-पिता से माँगता है जब तक वह वयस्क नहीं हो जाता। जब वह अपनी आजीविका कमाने लगता है, तब वह एक जोकर बन जाता है तथा अपने परिवार, मित्रों तथा सम्बन्धियों का मनोरंजन करता रहता है। उसके जीवन का अन्त हो जाता है और वह विलुप्त हो जाता है।
