1.

How can the production of hydrogen from water gas be increased by using water shift reaction?

Answer»

 Water shift reaction is given as

C(s) +H2O (g) --------------> CO(g)+H2(g) -121.3kj

It is difficult to obtain pure hydrogen from water gas (CO+H2) since CO is difficult to remove. Therefore to increase the production of H2 form water gas CO is oxidized to CO2 by mixing it with more steam and passing over FeCrO4 catalyst at 673K.
