An ATP molecule comprises of different components like adenine, ribose and three phosphates linked in a chain. The phosphates are linked by high energy phosphate bonds. Hence, ATP on dephosphorylation by ATPases yields energy. Energy is released due to breaking up of high energy phosphate bonds. Energy released by ATP is used to carry out different metabolic reactions of the body.
