It was the royal astrologers’ prediction that the Tiger King would be killed by a tiger. When the King came of age, he sat on the throne of the state. He banned hunting tigers by anybody in his state except for himself. He killed the first tiger and showed his bravery to the state astrologer. The astrologer told him that he might kill ninety-nine tigers the same way but the hundredth tiger might bring about his death. The King decided to kill one hundred tigers. When he shot the hundredth tiger, the bullet whizzed by the tiger and it fell down in a faint but was not killed. The King thought that he had killed the hundredth tiger. Some days later on his son’s birthday, he bought a wooden toy-tiger. A sliver from its rough surface pierced into his hand. Ultimately the infection proved fatal. Thus Tiger King died and the prediction proved true.

शाही ज्योतिषियों ने भविष्यवाणी की थी कि राजा की मृत्यु एक व्याघ्र के द्वारा ही होगी। जब राजा वयस्क हुआ तो राज्य के सिंहासन पर बैठा। उसने अपने राज्य में अपने सिवाय किसी के भी द्वारा व्याघ्रों का शिकार करने पर रोक लगा दी। उसने पहला व्याघ्र मारा और अपनी वीरता ज्योतिषी को दिखाई। ज्योतिषी ने कहा कि वह उसी ढंग से निन्यानवे व्याघ्र मार सकता है परन्तु सौवाँ बाघ उसकी मृत्यु ला सकता है। राजा ने सौ व्याघ्र मारने का निश्चय किया। जब उसने सौवें व्याघ्र को निशाना बनाया, गोली सनसनाती हुई उसके पास से निकल गई और व्याघ्र मूच्छित होकर गिर पड़ा परन्तु मरा नहीं। राजा ने सोचा कि उसने सौवें व्याघ्र को मार दिया है। कुछ दिन बाद अपने बेटे के जन्मदिन पर उसने लकड़ी का एक व्याघ्र खिलौना खरीदा। उस खिलौने की खुरदरी सतह से एक फांस उसके हाथ में चुभ गई। अन्त में संक्रमण घातक सिद्ध हुआ। इस प्रकार व्याघ्र राजा की मृत्यु हुई और भविष्यवाणी सच्ची सिद्ध हुई।
