How do you account for the strong reducing power of lithium in aqueous solution?

Answer» Lithium is the strongest reducing agnet in aqueous soltuion among the alkali metals. This is attrabuted to very small size of `Li^(+)` ion and very large hydration enthalpy which is released. This overcomes both lattice enthalpy and ionisation enthaply that are absorbed.
