How does H_(2)O_(2) behave as a bleaching agent ?

Answer»

Solution :The bleaching action of `H_(2)O_(2)` is due to the nascent oxygen which it LIBERATES on decomposition.
`H_(2)O_(2)to H_(2)O + O`
The nascent oxygen combines with colouring matter which, in turn gets oxidised . THUS, the bleaching action of `H_(2)O_(2)` is due to the OXIDATION of colouring matter by nascent oxygen. It is USED for the bleaching of delicate materials like ivory, feather, SILK, wool, etc.
