Generally, people have condemned traditions and customs so vehmently that they are looked upon scornfully by the modern youths. But such a scornful view for our customs and traditions is not wholly justified. Rama Mehta has beautifully re-assessed the significance of Indian customs and traditions. The tradition which does not allow a daughter-in-law to talk to her father-in-law cannot be justified in any way. Similarly, the touching of feet of the elders cannot be condemned. The love between the master and the servant is a noble example to follow. Thus, through her novel, Rama Mehta has given a new definition to the values of tradition.

साधारणतः लोगों ने परम्पराओं और रीति-रिवाजों को इतने जोश से नकारा है कि वर्तमान युवक उनको घृणा की दृष्टि से देखता है। परन्तु हमारी परम्पराओं और रीति-रिवाजों के प्रति ऐसा घृणित दृष्टिकोण पूर्णतः न्यायसंगत या उचित नहीं है। रमा मेहता ने बड़ी सुंदरता से भारतीय परम्पराओं तथा रीति-रिवाजों के महत्त्व को पुनः सुनिश्चित किया है। वह परम्परा जो एक वधु को अपने ससुर से सीधे बात करने की अनुमति नहीं देती है उसको किसी प्रकार भी उचित नहीं कहा जा सकता। इसी प्रकार बड़ों के चरणों को स्पर्श करने की प्रथा को रद्द नहीं किया जा सकता। स्वामी और सेवक के बीच प्यार होना एक भलो उदाहरण है जिसका अनुसरण किया जाना चाहिए। इस प्रकार रमा मेहता ने परम्पराओं को तथा रीति-रिवाजों के मूल्यों को नई परिभाषा दी है।
