How does the energy gap of an intrinsic semi- conductor vary, when doped with a trivalent impurity?

Answer»

When an intrinsic semi- conductor is doped with the impurity atoms of valency three like indium or boron, some allowed energy levels are produced, situated in the energy gap slightly above the valence band. These levels are called acceptor energy levels.
