(2) Urbanization: (I) Multiplying urban centers with large and dense populations and urban lifestyles have not only added to water and energy requirements but also have further aggravated the problem. (ii) Most housing societies have their own groundwater pumping devices to meet their water needs. This leads to depletion of underground water.
