How is O2 and CO2 transported in human beings?

About 97% of the O2 that diffuses into the blood combines with haemoglobin of RBCs forming an unstable compound called oxyhaemoglobin. The remaining 3% O2 dissolves into water of plasma. 70% of CO2 is transported from tissues to lungs in the form of bicarbonates dissolved in blood plasma. About 23% of CO2 is transported to lungs in the form of carbamino-haemoglobin.
