Answer» It helps in manufacturing of lipids and fat molecules. Endoplasmic reticulum synthesizes lipids (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) and proteins (rough endoplasmic reticulum) which are responsible for formation of membrane. Thus, they help in membrane biogenesis.
