How many conformations of alkane are present ? Why ? |

Answer» Solution :Alkanes can have infinite number of conformation by rotation around C-C single bonds. Reason : Sigma bond is present between two CARBONS in alkane. Electron distribution of the sigma molecular orbital is symmetrical around the intermolecular AXIS of the C-C bond which is not disturbed due to rotation about its axis. This rotation results into different SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT of ATOMS in space which can charge into one another. |
