1.

How many moles of magnesium phosphate, Mg3 (PO3 )2 will contain 0.25 mole of oxygen atoms?(a) 1.25 x 10-2(b) 2.5 x 10-2(c) 0.02(d) 3.125 x 10-2

Answer»

Correct option is  : (d)

Strategy : using the mole concept equate the moles of Mg3 (PO4 )2 to the number of atoms of oxygen in the formula of the compound.

Solution : 1 mole of Mg3 (PO4 )2 contains 8 moles of oxygen atoms.

Therefore 0.25 moles of oxygen atoms are present in 1/8 x 0.25 moles of Mg3 (PO4 )2   = 3.125 x 10-2 moles of Mg3 (PO4 )2
