Answer» As the railways have to expanded, they needed sleepers to hold the tracks together. And the lines required large amounts of sleepers.Timber was the best wood for this purpose so the British decided to use timber.Thus timber trees began to fell down at a very fast rate and very few timber tress remained.. So, it increased the demand for the rimber trees.Also, the contractors who laid down the tracks fell down trees blindly.. Thus a large no. of trees were wasted. Wood was used for laying railway sleelers and it was also used as fuel to run locomotives |
