Over thousands of years due to the heat and pressure in the interior portion of the earth, the trees containing carbon contents and some animals underwent gradual combustion. This transformed the vegetation into coal. It is used to run trains and steamers. It is also used to produce electricity in thermal power plants and as source of fuel for cooking. It is used to produce coal-tar, ammonia gas, benzoyl and crude oil.
