Answer» Gandhiji scolded the lawyers of Champaran saying that it was useless to go to the law courts where the peasants were much fear-stricken and charged high fees. When Gandhiji received summons to appear in the court, he telegraphed Dr. Rajendra Prasad to come with some influential people. Gandhiji asked him if he was sentenced to prison, what would they do. The senior lawyers asked Gandhi for advice and thought that Gandhiji was a total stranger and yet he was ready to go to prison for the sake of the peasants. They thought that belonging to Champaran, it was their moral duty to help the peasants. |
