Hypothalamus is also called as the 'control centre' or 'supreme commander' of ENDOCRINE regulation.
It is basal part of DIENCEPHALON, fore brain. It contains several neurosecretory CELLS called nuclei which produces hormones. The hormones regulate the synthesis and the secretion of pituitary hormones of pituitary gland.
The two types of pituitary hormones PRODUCED are : Releasing hormones and Inhibiting hormones.
Releasing hormones stimulates secretion of pituitary hormones
GnRH (Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone) stimulates anterior lobe of pituitary gland to release two gonadotrophins called the FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinising Hormone).
ARH (Adrenocorticotrophic Releasing Hormone) stimulates anterior lobe of pituitary to release ACTH (Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone).
TRH (Thyrotrophin Releasing Hormone) stimulates the anterior lobe of pituitary to release TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone).
