(i) AgCl shows Frenkel defect while NaCl does not. Give reason (ii) What is the formula of a compound in which the element Y forms ccp lattice and atoms of X occupy 1/3rd of tetrahedral voids? |

Answer» (i) AgCl shows Frenkel defect due to large difference in their ionic size. (ii) No. of Y atoms per unit cell = \(\frac{1}{8}\) x 8 + \(\frac{1}{2}\) = 1 + 3 = 4 No. of tetrahedral voids = 2 x 4 = 8 No. of X atoms = \(\frac{1}{3}\) x 8 = \(\frac{8}{3}\) Formula of compound = X8/3Y4 = X2Y3 |
