Osmosis: Osmosis is the movement of solvent particles across a semipermeable membrane from a DILUTE solution into a concentrated solution. a)It is essential for the survival of fish and other aquatic organisms. Oxygen dissolves in surface water due to the aerating action of winds. Oxygen is also INTRODUCED into the water as a byproduct of aquatic plant PHOTOSYNTHESIS. When dissolved oxygen becomes too low, fish and other aquatic organisms cannot survive.b)The egg that was soaked in water appears swollen because of osmosis too. This egg has LESS water concentration than that of the water. So, to EQUALIZE the concentration, the water molecules moved into the egg instead of moving out of it.Explanation: |
