Jammu and kashmir is an agrarian state, about 70% of the population of the state is DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY involvedwith the agriculture. It amounts to 19.83% of GDP of state. The main crops grown in the state are rice,MAIZE and wheat. About 84% of the TOTAL cropped area is under these crops. The other crops grown arebarley, bajra and jowar. Kharif and Rabi crops are identified on the basis of season. Kharif crops arecultivated in the monsoon season from May to Oct. The Rabi crops are winter crops cultivated fromNovember to march. The crops grown in kharif season are maize, rice, pulses and millets. The cropsgrown in the Rabi season are wheat, barley and oil seeds.
