1.

If α, β are roots of the equation 4x2 + 3x + 7 = 0, then 1/α + 1/β is equal to A. 7/3 B. −7/3 C. 3/7 D. −3/7

Answer»

given 4x+ 3x + 7 = 0

We know sum of the roots = \(\frac{-3}{4}\)

Product of the roots = \(\frac{7}{4}\)

As given that α and β are roots then,

α + β =\(\frac{-3}{4}\)

αβ =  \(\frac{7}{4}\)

given \(\frac{1}{α }+ \frac{1}{β}\)

\(\frac{α+β}{αβ}\)

= \(-\frac{3}{\frac{4}{\frac{7}{4}}}\)

= \(\frac{-3}{7}\)
