1.

If amoeba increased from 1 cell to 64 cells, how many binary fissions might have taken place? Give scientific reason for your answer.

Answer»

Total no of cells of amoeba \(=\) \(64\)

No of binary fissions \(=\)  \(\frac{64}{2} - 1 = 32 - 1 = 31\)

There are total  binary fissions occurring in amoeba. The reasons for this are:-

  • Binary fission is a type of asexual reproduction in which an organism divides into \(2\) daughter cells identical to each other.
  • Amoeba is a unicellular organism which reproduces by binary fission.
  • Therefore, 32 successive binary fissions will result in 64 amoebae cells.
