1.

If x = 2 α + 1 and y = α -1 is a solution of the equation 2x – 3y + 5 = 0, find the value of α.

Answer»

Given, (2 α + 1, α – 1 ) is the solution of equation 2x – 3y + 5 = 0.

Substituting x = 2 α + 1 and y = α – 1 in 2x – 3y + 5 = 0, we get

2(2 α + 1) – 3(α – 1 ) + 5 = 0

4 α + 2 – 3 α + 3 + 5 = 0

α + 10 = 0

α = – 10

The value of α is -10.
