According to question, x = a cos θ ...(i)

y = b sin θ...(ii)

Equation (i) differentiating w.r.t., θ

dx/dθ = ad cosθ/dθ

= a x (-sin θ) = -a sin θ

Then eq. (ii) differentiating w.r.t θ 

dy/dθ = bd sinθ/dθ = b cosθ 

Hence, dy/dx = dy/dθ/dx/dθ = b cosθ/-a sinθ 

= (b/-a) cot θ
