In optical fibres, which one-core or cladding, should have a higher refractive index? Why? |
|
Answer» Optical fibres are based on the phenomenon of total internal reflection. Core being of higher refractive index, condition that angle of incidence of light is greater than the critical angle is satisfied, as light travels from denser to rarer medium and total internal reflection takes place. There is almost no loss of light through the sides of the fibre or due to absorption by the core. |
