Answer» There were four varanas – the Brahmin, the Kshatriya, the Vaishya and the Shudra. The objective of the varna – system was to make people useful to the society on the basis of their virtues, nature and deeds; while the purpose of the Ashram system was the co-ordination of physical, social, divine and moral values of life. |
