1.

List the plant hormones and mention their functions.

Answer»

re five major hormones which are auxin, cytokinin, gibberellin, abscisic acid, and ethylene. Each hormone differs in its effects.1) Auxins promote STEM elongation, inhibit growth of lateral buds (maintains apical dominance). They are produced in the stem, buds, and root tips.2) Cytokinins are plant hormones that cause increased cell division by stimulating the process of mitosis. They are made NATURALLY by plants but have been synthesized by humans3) Gibberellins are growth hormones that stimulate cell elongation and cause plants to grow taller. Gibberellins also have a role in other plant processes, such as stem elongation, germination, flowering, and FRUIT ripening4) Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone which functions mainly as a growth inhibitor. Abscisic acid promotes the dormancy in seeds and buds [ this is the opposite of breaking the dormancy]. It also promotes closing of stomata. Abscisic acid promotes falling of leaves5) It acts at trace levels throughout the life of the plant by stimulating or regulating the ripening of fruit, the opening of flowers, and the ABSCISSION (or shedding) of leaves.
