1.

Mention the process of the production of activated sludge during sewage treatment.

Answer»

When the BOD (i.e. the amount of oxygen consumed when all organic matter in one litre of water is oxidised by the bacteria) of the effluent is reduced significantly activated sludge is produced during the sewage treatment. This is then passed into a setting tank where the bacterial floes are allowed to sediment in order to become an activated sludge.
