Answer» (i) Both Saints belonged to the early Bhakti Movements of Tamil Nadu; started around 6th century AD. Alvars were immersed in devotion to Vishnu, the Nayanar were devotees of Shiva. (ii) The hymns devoted in Shiva by Mayanars are preserved in Tirumurari whereas which were devoted to Vishnu by Alvar saints are collected in Malayira.
