-African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, is an insect-borneparasitic disease of humans and other animals.

-It is caused by protozoa of the species Trypanosoma brucei. There are two types thatinfecthumans, Trypanosoma bruceigambiense(TbG) andTrypanosoma brucei rhodesiense(TbR).

-They are transmitted to humans by tsetse fly (Glossina genus) bites which have acquired their infection from human beings or from animals harbouring human pathogenic parasites.
