After 1978-79, irrigation projects were divided into 3 parts- 

  • Minor irrigation : Agricultural command area is less than 2000 hectares. 
  • Medium irrigation project : Agricultural command area is from 2000 hectres to 10000 hectares. 
  • Major irrigation project : Agricultural command area is more than 10000 hectares.
