One mole of PCl5 is heated in one litre closed container. If 0.6 mole of chlorine is found at equilibrium, calculate the value of equilibrium constant?

Answer»

Given that [PCl5]initial = \(\frac{1 mol}{dm^3}\)

[Cl2]eq = 0.6 mol dm-3

PCl5 ⇄ PCl3 + Cl2

[PCl5]eq = 0.6 mole dm-3

[PCl5]eq = 0.4 mole dm-3

∴ KC = \(\frac{0.6 \times 0.6}{0.4}\)

KC = 0.9
