OR(a)-'Regeneration is not the same as reproduction" Justify the statement.Compare the process of regeneration with budding by giving suitableexample.

Answer»

(a) Regeneration is not the same as reproduction, as regeneration is a mode of asexual reproduction. Also in regeneration, in certain organisms, not the whole organism, but only a part of the organism is regenerated (Example, the tail of a lizard can be regenerated). On the contrary, reproduction involves the formation of an entirely new organism. Hence we can say that regeneration is not the same as reproduction.(b) Budding: In Budding, a small part of the body of the parent organism grows out as a bud which the detaches and becomes a new organism. For eg-Yeast

Regeneration: It is the ability to regenerate any fractured body part. For Eg-Planaria
