First Generation Learners are the first in their family lineage to get formal education. The ancestors of such learners were deprived of education due to various reasons. 

They generally belong to the socio-economically disadvantaged communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

• Such children mostly participate a great deal in domestic work and have poor exposure to the outside world.
• They suffer from many problems arising out of poverty and ignorance such as poor health, poor self-confidence, malnutrition etc.
• First Generation learners should be allowed to set their own pace and be given supplementary remedial instruction. 
• First-generation learners appear to be the most disadvantaged among all learners. They have the double handicap of having class/caste disadvantage as well as a totally illiterate background. 
• Teacher should ask there parents to carefully monitor the time their child devotes to his studies at home

Two broad influencing factors with respect to students’ challenges have been identified as parental support and teacher intervention.

• The teacher must have talked to the children to understand them and make the classroom environment conducive to their learning.  
• Teachers also felt a need to pay more attention and spend more time on these students.

Thus from the above-mentioned points, it is clear that as a teacher, you should ask them to carefully monitor the time their child devotes to his studies at home.
