Population change Thę population change refers to change in the number of people during aspecific time. The world population has not been stable. This is actually due tochanges in the number of births and deaths. For an extremely long period ofhuman history, until the 1800s, the world's population grew steadily but slowly.Large numbers of babics were born, but they died carly too. This was as therewere no proper health facilitics. Sufficient food was not available for all the people.Farmers were not able to produce enough to meet the food requirements of all thepeople. As a result the total increase in population was very low. In 1804, theworld's population reached one billion. A hundred and fifty five years later, in1959, the world's population rcached 3 billion. This is often called populationexplosion. In 1999, 40 years later, the population doubled to 6 billion. The mainreason for this growth was that with better food supplics and medicine, deaths6were reducing, while the number of births still remained fairly high. Births areusually measured using the birth rate i.c. the number of live births per 1,000people. Deaths are usually measured using the death rate i.c. the number ofdeaths per 1,000 people. Migrations is the movement of people in and out of anarca. Births and deaths are the natural causes of population change. Thedifference between the birth rate and the death rate of a country is called thenatural growth rate. The population increase in the world is mainly due to rapidincrease in natural growth rate.30.1) What might be the reason for the growth of population in 1999?30.2) Why some countries like Kenya have high population growth rates?30.3) What are the factors influencing change in population?

Answer:

  1. The reason for growth in population in 1999 was because of better medical supplies and due to better FOOD supplies. Death rates were reducing compare to BORN rates.
  2. There are two reasons. First, due to high fertility in previous decades, there are many more families in Kenya today. So even though families are smaller, the total number of children CONTINUES to grow. Second, Kenyans are living longer.
  3. Three primary factors ACCOUNT for population change, or how much a population is increasing or decreasing. These factors are birth RATE, death rate, and migration.
