Focal lenght of convex mirror is always positive because its position is on the right side (behind) the mirror . By cartesian sign convention the distance is measured from the pole i.e. pole is the origin . (i) Distance from pole to left side of the mirror is negative . (ii) Distance from pole to the right of the mirror is positive . 'f’ is positive for convex mirror and negative for concave mirror.
