PUUVIPotter2. 9. Why most of the borders of African countries run straight? |
|
Answer» Most of the borders of African countries are straight because Africa was divided on paper in conference halls in Europe. The Berlin conference was orchestrated by German 1st Chounsellor Otto Von Bismarck. It was extremely strategic: whilst Germany was rising to be an industrial/military superpower, Von Bismarck used the greed of other nations to deflect attention from Germany. They divided africa like dividing a pie, they used a ruler to draw lines. That’s how simple-minded the former country leaders were in the 19th century. Like stated before, all powerful European countries (besides Germany) got a reasonable size of the colonial pie. My former King Leopold II even got Congo as his private property. The downside from drawing lines with a ruler is that they did’nt take local tribes in account. Those tribes were suddenly divided by a random border, which to this day results in civil wars. Let’s hope greed doesn’t succeed anymore in global politics. because africa was divided on paper in conference halls in europe |
