Q. 26. Explain the application of redox reactions imetallurgy |
|
Answer» 1. Metallurgy: A suitable reducing agent is used to reduce metal oxides into metals. For example: Fe2O3is reduced to iron in blast furnace by using coke as a reducing agent. 2. In batteries: The stored electrical energy in electrochemical cells and batteries is obtained by the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in fuel cells using hydrogen and oxygen electrodes. 3. Bleaching: Bleaches are actually oxidising agents such as Hydrogen Peroxide. Oxidising agents like this reduce the hypo chlorite ion(which is mainly found in commercial preparations) to chloride ions and hydroxide ions forming a basic solution. |
