This condition arises, if fusion of cytoplasm (plasmogamy) is not immediately followed by fusion of nuclei (karyogamy). Karyogamy is delayed, it OCCURS just before meiosis. Dikaryon occurs in stage intervening between plasmogamy and karyogamy. Such cells are CALLED dikaryotic cells and the phase is called dikaryophase.
