Prophase-I of meiotic division is a LONG phase, which is divided into five subphases, i.e, leptotene, ZYGOTENE, pachytene, DIPLOTENE and DIAKINESIS. Synapsis or pairing of chromosomes occurs during the zygotene STAGE.
