Question : Calcium plays a vary important role in the formation of bones. Write on the role of endocrine glands and hormones responsible for maintaining calcium homeostasis. |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :Endocrine glands thyroid and parathyroid maintains homestasis of `Ca^("++")`, related hormone are calcitonin and parathyroid (PTH). (i) Parathyroid gland secete PTH, which maintains balance of `Ca^("++")` and `PO_(4)^(-)` in BLOOD and other tissues. It induces transport of CALCIUM from bones into the blood INCREASES reabsorption of `Ca^("++")` by Kidney and Intestine. (ii) Thyroid gland secrete thyrocalcitonin hormone. It INHIBITS release of `Ca^("++")` from bone and lower calcium level thus it acts against PTH and maintains hormonestasis of `Ca^("++")`. |
