Question : Can you think and answer how can a reporter enzyme be used to monitor transformation of host cells by foreign DNA in addition to a selectable marker? |
| Answer» SOLUTION :Reporter enzyme can be used to IDENTIFY transformed cells out of nontransformed BACTERIAL cells. Nontransformed bacterial cells have active lac-Z gene and can produce `beta` -galactosidase enzyme. They produce blue colonies in lactose rich culture medium. fn transformed bacterial cels, lac-Z gene is inactivated by recombinant DNA. Colony of such BACTERIA remains COLOURLESS because their lac-Z gene does not produce `beta` -galactosidase. | |
