Question : Coconut seed is an endospermous seed . In tender stage it has liquid endosperm . But when the embryo becomes completely matured there is only solid endosperm. (a) What is the function of endosperm? (b) Write the functional difference between liquid and solid endosperm .

Solution :(a ) ENDOSPERM is a nutritive tissue . It PROVIDES nourishment to the developing embryo. In angiosperms endosperm is triploid and is formed after fertilization .
(B) In coconut two forms of ENDOSPERMS are present . In the beginning the endosperm is in liquid state and in later STAGE it is in solid state . Liquid endosperm provides food for the development of zygote into embryo . solid endosperm provides food to the fully developed embryo for its future development .
