Answer» Solution :Modifications of Leaves for SPECIFIC functions : (a)Modifications for support and climbing : In some PLANTS with weak stems, leaves get converted into tendrils for climbing as in peas. (b) Modifications of leaves for protection : Some plants have modification of leaves into spines for defense as in CACTI. (c)Modification of leaves for food storage : Some plants have fleshy leaves for food storage. Eg. Onion and garlic. . Australian acacia : Leaves are small and short-lived. The petioles in these plants expand, become green and synthesise food. Insectivorous : Leaves of certain insectivorous plants such as pitcher plant, venus-fly trap are also MODIFIED leaves. |
