Question : Heterospory i.e., formation of two types of spores - microspores and megaspores is a characteristic feature in the life cycle of a few members of pteridophytes and all spermatophytes. Do you think heterospory has some evolutionary significance in plant kingdom ? |

Answer» Solution :• Heterospory are two different SIZED and of different sex spores produced by sporophyte. • Small spores are known as microspores germinate to give RISE to male and megaspores germinate to give rise to female gametophyte. • Pteridophytes ACT as INTERMEDIATE between bryophytes and gymnosperms in evolution of plants. All bryophytes are homosporous and all gymnosperms are heterosporous. In this condition cross fertilization takes place due to Dimorphism. |
