Answer» Solution :The famous biologist LINUS Pauling stated that, "Life results due to a relationship of molecules and is not a property of any one molecule." Life is predominantly organic in nature. Organic molecules are complex molecules containing carbon atoms. All other molecules are inorganic. Both types of molecules are essential. Without such inorganic molecules as water `(H_2O)`, carbon dioxide `(CO_2)` and molecular OXYGEN `(O_2)`, life would not be possible, but it is organic molecules that are responsible for the INCREDIBLE DIVERSITY of living things. Biologic diversity is a function of the capacity of carbon atoms to form large and complex molecules. This size and complexity gives almost unlimited potential for diversity of molecules but it also makes organic molecules much more fragile and easy to destroy than the SMALLER and simpler inorganic molecules. Both, micro- and macro-molecules are important to life. |
