Question : the given diagram illustrates stomata closing the major mistake in the diagram is that

Answer»

the concentration of the `K_(+)` should be more outside the guard CELLS
the concentration of the `K_(+)` should be equal on both INSIDE and outside
the peripheral walls of the guard cells should be thicker
the water should move inside the guard cells.

Solution :During stomatal CLOSURE, the `H^(+)` ions diffuse out of the guard cell chloroplat. Any malate presents in the cytoplasm combines with `H^(+)` to form malic acid. Undissociated malic acid promotes leakage of ions. As a result `K^(+)` ions dissociate from malate and pass out of the guard cells. LOSS of `K^(+)` ions decreases osmotic concentration fo guard cells as compared to adjacent epidermal cell. this CAUSES exomosis andhence turgidity of the guard cells decreases.
